An ideal location to escape the tourists and explore the Yucatan. Rather than stay in a commercial hotel or an all-inclusive, you will stay in a beautiful century-old home complete with 18-foot ceilings, a lovely garden, and a beautiful pool. Casa Lunita is located in the center of the small, yet bustling Villa de Baca.
The century-old house has been minimally restored with masonry repair, additional bathrooms, upgraded electricity and plumbing, internet, and a modern kitchen— while keeping intact its original character.
The sala, dining room, kitchen, courtyard, portico, and garden are shared spaces. The sala is equipped with a projector for watching DVDs on the wall, a dining area, and small library. The dining room is home to a few old Maya and colonial artifacts that were found while renovating. The kitchen is fully equipped, refrigerator, microwave, oven, range, and small appliances. The courtyard offers three seating areas and there is a small terrace on the roof. The portico has both seating and dining area.
The garden features native and ornamental plants, orange, lime, sour orange and coconut palm trees, succulents and cycads and an ongoing and ever-changing array of flowers and herbs.
The people of Baca are warm and friendly. The central plaza, market, church, and playgrounds are teeming with activity daily. A vendor sells fresh fish on Wednesdays and Friday that can be deep-fried as you wait. Baca is home to many excellent cocinas económicas providing rich homemade Yucatecan food. Vendors grill meats every weekend. Local vendors also sell their own honey and honey products, hammocks, and artwork.
Bus service is readily available to Merida and beyond.
