The century-old house has been minimally restored with masonry repair, additional bathrooms, upgraded electricity and plumbing, internet, and a modern kitchen— while keeping intact its original character.
The sala is equipped a dining table (for 8), a sitting area, a small library, and a projector. The dining room has a traditional colonial dining area (for 8-10 people). The kitchen is fully equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, oven, range, and small appliances. The courtyard offers poolside seating and 2 private garden seating areas. There is a small terrace on the roof. The portico has a large sitting area including hammocks.
The garden features native and ornamental plants, orange, lime, sour orange and coconut palm trees, succulents and cycads and an ongoing and ever-changing array of flowers and herbs.
The people of Baca are warm and friendly. The central plaza, market, church, and playgrounds are teeming with activity daily. A vendor sells fresh fish on Wednesdays and Friday that can be deep-fried as you wait. Baca is home to many excellent cocinas económicas providing rich homemade Yucatecan food. Vendors grill meats every weekend. Local vendors also sell their own honey and honey products, hammocks, and artwork. Baca is well-known as the home of the Fundacion de Bienestar Natural healing center and its lovely aquatic gardens and Thai restaurant La Casa de Los Lotos.
Bus/combi/taxi service is readily available to Merida and beyond.
